Introduction to Literary Analysis (Grades 8-10)

Introduction to Literary Analysis is an excellent place to begin high school level English studies. Amy Craven takes students step by step through crafting a strong thesis to selecting key evidence to honing insightful analysis.

Using Lesha Meyer’s Windows to the World as a spine, students will also learn how to read a text and understand the elements of great writing. In addition to many short stories, students will read core works of English literature: Animal Farm, Macbeth, The Hound of the Baskervilles, The Giver, and The Miracle Worker. A study of Latin and Greek roots will help students improve their vocabulary. The tutorial also includes a systematic exploration of study skills to help students succeed throughout their high school years using Learning How to Learn: How to Succeed in School Without Spending All Your Time Studying.

The tutorial uses the flexible Google Classroom interface along with Zoom for live class meetings. Introduction to Literary Analysis will meet on Thursdays at 11 a.m. ET, beginning on August 20, 2020. The 2020-2021 Academic Calendar is available here.

The group tutorial price is $450 plus a $15 non-refundable registration fee. It meets weekly for 90 minutes over two 15-week semesters. The tutorial will run if at least five students enroll.
