Middle School is the perfect time to explore online learning. Students enjoy building community while strengthening the skills they need to succeed in high school. This full-year group tutorial includes grammar, vocabulary, composition, and literature studies. Whether they’ve had a little or a lot of previous experience, students make great strides using the Institute for Excellence in Writing Fix It! Grammar series along with the theme-based history writing lesson books. Wonderful stories provide the basis for engaging discussions while learning about literary genres and techniques.
Middle School English is generally taken for two to three years, enabling students to solidify foundational skills. The content rotates through a three-year cycle that allows students to jump in and out at any point. For the 2020-2021 academic year, we will focus on the middle ages with IEW’s Medieval History-Based Writing Lessons. We will read The Story of King Arthur and His Knights, Parzival, The Door in the Wall, The Sword, the Ring & the Parchment, The Trumpeter of Krakow, and The Tale of Desperaux. Students will study Book 1 or 2 of the Fix It! Grammar series in class as appropriate for their individual situation. Students beyond Book 2 can work independently with tutor assistance.
The tutorial uses the flexible Google Classroom interface along with Zoom for live class meetings. Middle School English will meet on Thursdays at 9 a.m. ET, beginning on August 20, 2020. The 2020-2021 Academic Calendar is available here.
The group tutorial price is $450 plus a $15 non-refundable registration fee. It meets weekly for 90 minutes over two 15-week semesters. The tutorial will run if at least five students enroll.
**Note: This tutorial is confirmed for 2020-2021. There is still room for your student to join us.
