Literary Analysis & Composition

This tutorial takes students step by step through crafting a strong thesis, selecting key evidence, and honing insightful literary analysis. During weekly 75- to 90-minute meetings over two 15-week semesters, students learn how to read a text and understand the elements of great writing. In addition to many short stories, students read core works of English literature and poetry. A study of Latin and Greek roots helps students improve their vocabulary. The tutorial also includes a systematic exploration of study skills that they can apply across disciplines. Students demonstrate their learning through weekly assignments, essays, projects, and exams.

Students who wish to pursue honors credit will create a customized path from a set of provided options. An assortment of additional titles along with deeper, more complex assignments will be available.
